After-School Tutoring
In 1992, the Guadalupe After-School Program was established as a small tutoring program held in our soup kitchen immediately following the regular school day. The program has since expanded to serve over 450 students in kindergarten through 2nd grade at two local elementary schools in Immokalee—Pinecrest and Highlands.
The After-School Program combines the use of certified teachers, adult staff, and high school tutors to address the educational needs of its students throughout the entire school year. The program works to help struggling students overcome their educational barriers and perform at the appropriate grade level.
Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and students who attend the After-School Program are receiving a firm academic foundation upon which to build as they continue to grow and learn.
Summer Enrichment Program
Providing educational opportunities over the three-month summer vacation is critically important to the academic success of the children of Immokalee. In 2004, the Summer Tutoring and Recreation Program (S.T.A.R.) began with 175 students and continued to grow each year, now serving 300 students. The S.T.A.R. Program combines academics with recreation for a summer experience that is both fun and educational.
